What is Personal Care?

Personal care covers a broad range of assistance that is available, should you need it, to manage your personal hygiene, medication, nutrition and hydration well-being.

Personal Care Plan

By creating an in-depth person-centred care plan with yourself and your loved ones we develop a small team of regular care workers who get to know you and appreciate your individual preferences. The team will let you be as independent as you would like, they allow space and time for you to remain independent and assist when you require them to. We provide continuity as we appreciate personal care can be of a sensitive nature and having a small team of regular workers you will be more at ease.

Our care team are continuously learning and developing their skills through courses, open learning and team meetings. If staff require more training or feel they are unable to meet your needs this is discussed and we look at alternatives and training to make our team knowledgeable and accountable for the care they provide.

Personal care can include (and is not limited to):

  • Assistance with using the toilet

Changing incontinence pads and using a commode/bed pan, changing catheter bags, assistance with changing of stoma bags

  • Washing, shaving, bathing and showering
  • Applying creams, lotions and make up
  • Managing and monitoring skin integrity
  • Oral hygiene
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Support with moving and positioning
  • Feet and hand care
  • Hair care
  • Support with nutrition and hydration
  • Managing medication

We appreciate that personal care is a sensitive topic so our team all work to provide personal care discreetly; maintaining your dignity at all times and ensuring your wishes are respected.

You may need assistance following an injury or illness and we can be there for you to help you remain at home and help you regain your independence.

We will carry out an in-depth assessment and gain knowledge of the planned treatment, we will work with your GP and other professional bodies to ensure we help you to a speedy recovery. We can help with your personal hygiene, light housework, and exercise as well as providing emotional support and companionship for yourself and your family.

Our health can deteriorate over time, so changes are inevitable. Changes might be permanent or temporary and could happen suddenly or very gradually. As your loved one’s health changes, they might need different levels of care and support.

If you notice that your needs are not reflected in the current care plan or that you have different desired outcomes, then simply give us a call and we are happy to discuss the changes with you. We can amend or create new desired outcomes and work with our team to ensure the care you receive meets your current requirements.

Our carers will happily assist you with any occasional help with your pet. During the initial assessment, we will ask about any pets that live with you.

If you require occasional help, please let us know so we can ensure the member of our care team are comfortable with pets and can help you should the need arise.

We encourage you to meet and interact with your friends and family to promote your wellbeing. If you make plans to have lunch/dinner with a loved one then we are happy to cancel a visit. We request that you give us some notice so we can manage your care and the care team accordingly and avoid any charges.

Testimonials
We are incredibly pleased with Allium Homecare, after all the horror stories I have heard about other agencies. The carers have been a great blessing for my mum. They are always polite and very respectful. Didn’t realise such agencies existed.
